Description
The Compact Flash Layer was originally designed as a CP/M Upgrade for the Mini II. Whilst the RC2014 Zed Mini can make use of the compact flash part, the pageable lower RAM portion is not required. Therefore, using a subset of components, the compact flash part suits the Zed Mini perfectly.
This 4 layer Mini format PCB is supplied with the surface mount CF socket presoldered. All the other components are through-hole parts for easy soldering. The stacking headers allows it to be fitted as an intermediate layer between the Zed Mini and other layers.
Please note that due to the 32k Pageable RAM not being used, some footprints will be left empty. As such it is recommended that you follow the supplied assembly guide to ensure you’re fitting the parts correctly.
RomWBW has full support built in for the Compact Flash Layer and it will be recognised without any change to the RomWBW firmware.
A 1gb compact flash card is supplied preloaded with all 18 RomWBW slices. The remaining space is FAT formatted and can be read/written from a modern PC. RomWBW can access this FAT partition with the FAT command, making it convenient to move files between the RC2014 and a modern machine.
