The Real Time Clock (RTC) Module allows you to access time and date information on your RC2014. It is based around the DS1302 chip and is supported using RomWBW. This allows for date and time stamping of files, checking the time from your RC2014 and all your normal time keeping jobs. Battery backup keeps the clock going when your RC2014 is turned off .
The current Global Chip Shortage has resulted in sporadic availability of the DS1302 IC used in this module, and when stock is available, it is often at a very high price. However, this has always been a very common chip, so it is quite likely that you have one going spare. Check your pile of Arduino shields, old dev boards, or even consumer hardware you are no longer using. If you have a DIP8 DS1302, DS1302N or DS1302N+ then you can buy this kit without the main IC.
Note that the Royal Mail postal service has a phobia about batteries exploding and taking down aircraft. So unfortunately, you will have to source your own CR2032 battery
